On 7 September 2026, the Institute of Translational Health Science (ITHS) and the Institute of Nutrigenetics & Nutrigenomics Research (INNR) marked National Nutrition Week with a one-day event, Nutrition Matters 2026, at the ITHS campus in Chandigarh. The theme, “Nutrition, Genes and Health: From Traditional Wisdom to Modern Science”, set the frame for the day: the food habits Indian families have followed for generations, looked at again with what nutrition science and genetics now know.
Around 50 students took part.
Expert lecture
Dietitian Navdeep Kaur, Founder of Diet Enlight Clinic, delivered the expert lecture. She spoke on healthy dietary practices and the role of nutrition in preventive healthcare, and stayed on for an interactive Q&A with students.
Two competitions

In the healthy food preparation competition, students prepared nutritious dishes, presented them to a faculty panel and explained the thinking behind each one. In the poster making competition, they presented nutrition concepts visually. Prizes and certificates were awarded in both.
Why this theme
Nutrition Week is a national observance. ITHS chose this theme because it is close to what the institute teaches. ITHS offers its B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes in Nutrigenetics and Personalised Nutrition in collaboration with INNR, and these programmes study how genes shape the way each person responds to food. A day built around traditional wisdom and modern science is the same question in a different room.
Nutrition matters. Every choice matters. Every day matters.
